Every KTEL bus corridor on Santorini starts in Fira. This guide draws them over the island’s own terrain, links each to its timetable page with the edition date, and says plainly where the answer is a change in Fira, or no bus at all.

    The published sources do not guarantee connections. Allow your own transfer time in Fira and recheck both departures on the day you travel.

    The island in the order you meet it

    Five stretches, from the port and the airport outwards. Each place carries the status its timetable earns: a corridor KTEL prints departures for, or a stop the published sources tie to a corridor without printing a column of its own.

    Where you land

    The airport and Athinios, two ways in

    The airport has one KTEL corridor, to Fira, printed in both directions; KTEL gives the ride as ten minutes. Athinios, the ferry port eight kilometres from Fira at the foot of the caldera wall, has published KTEL fares and a twenty-minute journey time but no departure table, so the port page sets out what to check on the day. From the airport, everywhere else on the island is a second bus from Fira. From Athinios, KTEL also prints fares to Kamari, Perissa, Pyrgos and other villages, but no departures for them, so check at the port or go via Fira.

    The hub

    Fira, where every corridor begins

    KTEL’s timetable is built around the bus station in Fira: every corridor starts and ends there, and changing between two of them means a fresh departure with no connection promised. The town is also a walk: the caldera path runs north from the cathedral through Firostefani, and the finds from the Bronze Age town at Akrotiri are in the Museum of Prehistoric Thera. For Karterados and Messaria, just south, KTEL prints through fares to the south coast.

    The rim

    North of Fira the villages stand on the caldera rim. Firostefani and Imerovigli share one corridor; Oia, at the northern tip, has its own. The rim path links them on foot, so many visitors walk one way and ride the other. In Oia the sunset sets the queue: the line for the bus back to Fira is longest just after the sun drops, and Imerovigli’s is shorter.

    The east coast

    The black-sand beaches of the east coast are two separate corridors. Kamari and Perissa sit either side of Mesa Vouno, and KTEL publishes no bus over the mountain between them; a marked footpath crosses it past Ancient Thera, which no KTEL fare stage names. Monolithos, near the airport, is a corridor of its own with few departures, so the way back is worth reading before the day starts.

    The south

    Wine villages, the Bronze Age town and the far south

    KTEL sells tickets to the inland wine villages of Pyrgos, Megalochori and Emporio, but no timetable column or stop list names them, so ask at the Fira bus station which departure serves each. The Akrotiri corridor is named for the village beside the excavated Bronze Age town, which is under a roof, and KTEL prints a separate fare stage for Red Beach beyond it. Vlychada, on the south coast, has its own corridor and two published fares that disagree.

    What the weather decides here

    • The rim path from Fira to Oia Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia each have a corridor back to Fira, so the walk can end at any of them.
    • Skaros Rock at Imerovigli No shade and loose stones in places; the Imerovigli page asks for real shoes and water in midsummer.
    • Swimming on the east coast The municipality’s beach guide calls Monolithos shallow; no source checked publishes lifeguard cover or sea conditions, so read the beach flags on the day.
    • A day under a roof The Akrotiri excavation is covered, which makes it a plan for a hot, wet or windy day.

    These are measured weather readings, not a service status. We do not infer from a reading whether a bus or a boat is running; KTEL’s timetable, linked from every corridor page, is the source for that.

    Where the printed network reaches

    KTEL’s corridors reach the caldera villages from Fira to Oia, the airport, the beaches at Kamari, Perissa, Monolithos and Vlychada, the Akrotiri peninsula and the hillside village of Vourvoulos. The corridor pages carry the departures, the edition date and the operator’s PDF.

    Where it does not

    No fare stage serves Ancient Thera, the summit of Profitis Ilias or Skaros Rock, and KTEL publishes no departure table for Athinios port and no column for the inland villages it prints fares for. For those, a walk from the nearest stop, a taxi or a guided trip is the honest answer.

    Car rental: we have not verified a rental programme for Santorini, so none is linked here; the places the corridors reach are listed in this section.

    Vlychada fare: two official sources currently disagree

    The KTEL fare table lists €2.80, while the newer timetable PDF dated 1 November 2026 lists €2.70. This guide does not choose between them—confirm the fare with KTEL before boarding.
